Monaco 6 Day Itinerary (No Tourist Traps)
This extends the 5-day plan with a cross-border day. Days 1 and 2 are Monaco itself, Day 3 Nice, Day 4 Eze, Day 5 Menton. Day 6 crosses into Italy for Ventimiglia, but only works as written if the date lands on a Friday, the market’s one real day.

Day 1: Le Rocher and the museum
Start on the Rock. Changing of the Guard, 11:55am daily, free. State apartments open seasonally, 30 March to 15 October 2026, about EUR13. The Cathedral, free, holds the Grimaldi vault. The Oceanographic Museum, founded 1910, later directed by Jacques Cousteau, runs about EUR22.50, two to three hours. Lunch at the Marche de la Condamine food court, barbagiuan and socca, about EUR10 to 12.
Day 2: Monte-Carlo and the Jardin Exotique
Three casino tiers : free Atrium, EUR20 morning heritage visit before 2pm, EUR20 gaming rooms from 2pm, 18+. Casino Square worth the walk-through regardless. The Jardin Exotique , reopened 30 March 2026, about EUR12, the best panoramic terrace in the country. Larvotto beach, free, pebble not sand, fills a spare hour.
Day 3: Nice
Direct 22-minute train, about EUR5 to 7, roughly 60 departures a day. Old town, Cours Saleya market mornings, the Promenade des Anglais.
Day 4: Eze
Train to Eze-sur-Mer, about 7 minutes, then a further 20 to 30 minutes by infrequent bus or a steep walk up the Chemin de Nietzsche to the perched village itself. Jardin d’Eze, the free Fragonard tour, lunch in the village.
Day 5: Menton
Direct 11 to 12 minute train, about EUR3 to 4, the easiest connection of this trip. Flat old town, the Marche du Bastion (closed Mondays), the Musee Jean Cocteau.
Day 6: Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia, across the Italian border, is a direct 25 to 30 minute train from Monaco-Monte-Carlo, fares roughly EUR4 to 7. Both countries use the euro and sit inside the Schengen zone in practice, so there is no passport check or currency change, just a different country outside the window. The Friday market is one of the largest open-air markets in Italy and the entire reason to pick this day trip over a repeat visit to Nice, arrive on an early train, well before 8am departures exist, to beat the crowds and the tour groups arriving later. Pick a day that is not a Friday and this trip loses most of its point, swap in Cannes or a second look at Nice instead.
Does Ventimiglia work on any day, not just Friday?
Not really. The old town and the Roman theatre are there every day, but the market that makes this specific detour worth an hour on a train is a Friday-only event. Anyone whose sixth day falls on a different weekday should treat this as an optional swap, not a fixed stop.
