Micronesia 7-Day Travel Itinerary
(Note: This itinerary assumes you’ll be visiting the three main states in Micronesia – Yap, Chuuk (Truk), and Kosrae. Keep in mind that travel restrictions due to COVID-19 may apply, so always confirm current guidelines before planning your trip.)
Day 1: Arrival & Explore Colonia, Yap State
- Arrive at FSM International Airport (RMIA) on the island of Yap.
- Transfer to Colonia, Yap’s capital.
- Visit the Rengma Village and learn about local customs, such as the unique “stone money.”
- Spend evening exploring the Colonia town center and try some local cuisine.
Day 2: Yap State Activities
- Explore the islands of Gagil and Maap for beautiful beaches and snorkeling opportunities.
- Visit the historic Yapese War Canoe Park to see traditional canoes that hold up to 80 people.
- Take a boat trip to the nearby island of Ull, where you can dive with manta rays or swim with sharks at “Manta Ray Bay.”
Day 3: Travel to Chuuk (Truk) State
- Fly from Yap to Chuuk (Truk).
- Visit the WWII museum and underwater shipwrecks, including the Fujikawa Maru and the Barge SF-1.
- Take a tour of the island’s lush jungles and learn about the indigenous culture.
Day 4: Chuuk (Truk) State Activities
- Visit the beautiful white sand beaches of Weno Island, such as Chaune Beach.
- Snorkel or scuba dive in the crystal clear waters to explore coral reefs and marine life.
- Spend evening relaxing on the beach or exploring the local town.
Day 5: Travel to Kosrae State
- Fly from Chuuk (Truk) to Kosrae State, known as “The Island of the Sleeping Giant.”
- Explore the unique landscape and lush rainforests, including the Leluh Botanical Park.
- Visit the ancient stone statues at Malem Bay.
Day 6: Kosrae State Activities
- Dive or snorkel in the clear waters around Kosrae to see a variety of marine life and coral reefs.
- Take a tour of the Tasi Man grove, home to some of the largest breadfruit trees in the world.
- Relax at one of Kosrae’s beautiful beaches, such as Fhonokii Beach or Lelu Beach.
Day 7: Departure
- Spend your final day enjoying any remaining activities and savoring local cuisine.
- Transfer to the airport for your flight home or onward journey.
Things to Know:
- Visa Requirements: U.S., Australian, Canadian, Japanese, and South Korean citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 30 days. Other nationalities should check with their local embassy.
- Currency: The official currency in Micronesia is the United States Dollar (USD).
- Language: English is the main language spoken in Micronesia, but Yapese and Chuukese are also widely spoken in their respective states.
- Transportation: Taxis and car rentals are available on each island. You may need to arrange boat transportation between some islands.
- Accommodation: There are various accommodation options available, from hotels to guesthouses, depending on your budget and preferences. It’s recommended to book in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.
