Mexico 2 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring Historic Mexico City
Morning:
- Start your day with a traditional Mexican breakfast at a local café. Try chilaquiles or huevos rancheros.
- Visit the Zocalo, the main square of Mexico City, and witness the grandeur of the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Palacio Nacional.
Afternoon:
- Explore the Templo Mayor, an Aztec temple located in the heart of the city. Afterward, visit the Museo Templo Mayor to learn about the Aztecs.
- Head to the Coyoacan neighborhood. Stroll through its cobblestone streets, visit the Frida Kahlo Museum, and enjoy local food at one of the many street vendors.
Evening:
- Dine in a Poblano restaurant, known for their delicious mole poblano.
- End your day with a stroll around the Bosque de Chapultepec, Mexico City’s largest park.
Things to know:
- Mexico City is at an altitude of over 7,000 feet (2,134 meters), so you may feel the effects of altitude sickness. Drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activities immediately upon arrival.
- Spanish is the official language, but many people in tourist areas speak some English.
- Always be aware of your surroundings and keep personal belongings safe.
Day 2: Visit Teotihuacan and Xochimilco
Morning:
- Take an early morning trip to the ancient city of Teotihuacan. Explore the Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and other ruins.
- Return to Mexico City for lunch. Try tacos al pastor or quesadillas.
Afternoon:
- Head to Xochimilco. Rent a trajinera, a traditional boat, and navigate through the canals. Enjoy live Mariachi music and local snacks on board.
- In the evening, return to Mexico City and enjoy a night out in the trendy neighborhood of Roma Norte or Condesa.
Transportation:
- Mexico City has an extensive public transportation system including metro, buses, and ride-sharing apps. Taxis are also widely available but be sure to use licensed taxis only.
- For the day trips, consider booking a guided tour or renting a car if you’re comfortable driving in Mexico.
Visa Requirements:
- Citizens of most countries do not require a visa for stays of up to 180 days. Always check the latest requirements before your trip.
