Mayotte Travel Itinerary (5 Days)
Day 1: Arrival & Exploring Chiconi
- Arrive at Pamandzi International Airport. After customs, get a local SIM card for connectivity.
- Head to your accommodation in Chiconi, a coastal village known for its beautiful beaches and calm waters.
- Visit the Plage de la Mare-ao and Plage de Chiconi, enjoy the sun, sea, and local cuisine at nearby restaurants.
- In the evening, explore the local market in Chiconi for souvenirs and try the famous “Galette Mayotte”.
- Things to Know: The official language is French, but Shimaore (a Swahili dialect) is widely spoken. Electricity voltage is 220V, so bring an adapter if needed.
Day 2: Dzawondzi National Park & Kari Matsanga Bay
- Visit the Dzawondzi National Park in the morning. It’s home to diverse flora and fauna, including the iconic Mayotte fruit dove.
- After lunch, head to Kari Matsanga Bay, known for its turquoise waters, coral reefs, and excellent snorkeling opportunities.
- Activities: Snorkeling, swimming, picnicking.
Day 3: Exploring Bouéni & Jabén
- Travel to Bouéni, the economic capital of Mayotte. Visit the Sainte Marie Catholic Church and the bustling market for local goods.
- Head to nearby Jabén and explore the traditional Comorian village, known for its spices, vanilla plantations, and beautiful views.
- Activities: Visit the Vanilla Plantation, enjoy a local lunch.
Day 4: Mtsamboro Island & M’Tsangamouji Forest
- Take a boat trip to Mtsamboro Island, a paradise for snorkeling and marine life observation.
- In the afternoon, visit the M’Tsangamouji Forest, home to many endemic species like the Mayotte fruit dove and the Mayotte giant gecko.
- Activities: Snorkeling, birdwatching, forest hiking.
Day 5: Boucolombe & Departure
- Spend your last day at Boucolombe, a beautiful village with black sand beaches and clear waters.
- Visit the Lumaniak Natural Pools and enjoy the stunning views of the ocean.
- Return to your accommodation, pack, and prepare for departure.
