Malawi 3 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Lake Malawi (Northern Region)

  • Morning: Arrive at Kamuzu International Airport, Blantyre. Depending on your arrival time, you can visit the Museum of Malawi or explore Blantyre City.
  • Afternoon: Travel to Northern Region (approx. 8 hours by road or a short flight to Mzuzu). Settle into your accommodation near Lake Malawi.
  • Evening: Visit Kande Beach or Chitimba Beach, enjoy the sunset, and have dinner at a local restaurant.

  • Malawi uses the Malawian Kwatcha (MWK) as its currency.
  • English is widely spoken along with Nyanja and Tumbuka.
  • Lake Malawi, also known as Lake Niassa in Mozambique and Lago Nyasa in Tanzania, is one of the world’s largest lakes by volume and the third deepest lake in Africa.

Activities:

  • Sunbathing on pristine beaches.

Day 2: Lake Malawi & Livingstonia

  • Morning: Take a boat tour to Livingstonia Mission (approx. 3 hours). Explore the old mission station and enjoy stunning views of the lake.
  • Afternoon: Return to your base and relax on the beach. You can opt for a fishing trip or a visit to a local pottery village in the evening.

Day 3: Chitala Wildlife Center & Departure

  • Morning: Travel to Chitala Wildlife Center (approx. 2 hours from Lake Malawi). Experience various wildlife species including elephants, hippos, and a variety of birds.
  • Afternoon: Return to Mzuzu or another city depending on your departure time.
  • Evening: Departure from Kamuzu International Airport, Blantyre.

  • Malawi is known as the “Warm Heart of Africa” due to its friendly locals.
  • The country has a tropical climate with three seasons: cool and dry (May to August), hot and dry (September to November), and hot and wet (December to April).
