Madagascar 3 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring Antananarivo (Tana)
- Morning: Arrival at Ivato International Airport, Tana. After clearing customs and immigration formalities, freshen up and have breakfast at your hotel.
- Afternoon: Visit the Rova of Antananarivo, a historic royal hill fortress that was the residence of the Merina Kings. Then, head to the Andrianjaky Market for an immersive local shopping experience. Don’t forget to try some Malagasy street food!
- Evening: Explore Avenue de l’Independence with its numerous restaurants and cafes. Try some Malagasy cuisine like Ravitoto or Romazava.
Things to know:
- Tana is at a high altitude, so it can get quite cold, especially in the evenings. Pack accordingly.
- The traffic in Tana can be chaotic, so allow extra time for travel.
Day 2: Adventure in Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
- Morning: Depart early for Andasibe-Mantadia National Park (approx. 3 hours drive). Check into your eco-lodge and have lunch.
- Afternoon: Guided walk through the Mantadia National Park to see the Indri lemurs, tenrec, chameleons, and various bird species. Don’t forget your binoculars!
- Evening: Visit the Vakona Private Reserve to see lemurs up close, including the nocturnal aye-aye. Enjoy a traditional Malagasy dinner at the eco-lodge.
Day 3: Lemur Island and Departure
- Morning: After breakfast, visit the Lemur Island (Ile Tortue) to see lemurs like the Brown Lemur and the Nosy Komba.
- Afternoon: Return to Tana, do some last-minute shopping or sightseeing if time allows. Prepare for your departure.
- Evening: Transfer to Ivato International Airport for your onward journey.
