Macedonia 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Skopje (Arrival)
- Arrive at Skopje Alexander the Great Airport (SKP)
- Visit Skopje’s Old Town, including the Daut Pasha Mosque, Stone Bridge, and Kale Fortress.
- Explore the Modern City Center with its unique statues and fountains.
- Overnight stay in Skopje.
Day 2: Matka Lake & Vrelo Canyon
- Day trip to Matka Lake, a glacial canyon and natural landmark filled with caves and wildlife.
- Boat tour on the lake to visit the Vrelo Cave.
- Visit the monasteries of St. Andrej and St. Panteleimon.
- Return to Skopje for the night.
Day 3: Ohrid (Travel & Exploration)
- Travel to Ohrid by bus or car, approximately a 2-hour drive.
- Visit the ancient ruins of Lychnidos and Samuel’s Fortress.
- Explore the picturesque old town with its unique churches, like St. Sophia, St. Jovan Kaneo, and St. Panteleimon.
- Overnight stay in Ohrid.
Day 4: Ohrid (Relax & Activities)
- Spend the day relaxing on the beautiful beaches of Ohrid.
- Take a boat tour to the Church of Sveti Naum, located at the south end of the lake.
- Visit the Ohrid National Museum and the Ancient Theatre.
- Enjoy local cuisine in one of the traditional restaurants.
Day 5: Prespa Lake & Pelister National Park
- Day trip to Prespa Lake, home to two countries (Macedonia & Albania) and numerous bird species.
- Visit the Monastery of St. Micheal on Prespa Lake.
- Travel to Pelister National Park and hike up Mount Pelister for stunning views.
- Return to Ohrid for the night.
Day 6: Bitola & Heraclea Lyncestis
- Travel to Bitola, approximately a 1-hour drive from Ohrid.
- Visit the Museum of Macedonia and the Memorial House of Mother Teresa.
- Explore the old town with its Ottoman architecture and the bustling Shirok Sokak (Bitola’s main street).
- Visit the ancient ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis, an archaeological site dating back to the 4th century BCE.
- Overnight stay in Bitola.
Day 7: Skopje & Departure
- Travel back to Skopje, approximately a 2-hour drive from Bitola.
- Spend the remaining time shopping for souvenirs or revisiting favorite spots in Skopje.
- Departure from Skopje Alexander the Great Airport (SKP).
Things to Know:
- Macedonia is a member of the Schengen Visa agreement, so European visitors do not need a visa. Non-European visitors should check their country’s visa requirements.
- The official language is Macedonian, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas and cities.
- Tap water is safe to drink throughout the country.
