Luxembourg 2 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Luxembourg City
Morning:
- Start your day with a hearty breakfast at one of the local cafes in the city center. Some popular options include Café Bel-Air, Le Cactus and Dock 31.
- Visit Notre-Dame Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre-Dame), a beautiful neo-Gothic church located in the heart of the city. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
- Take a stroll along Chemin de la Corniche, a unique, cliff-side pathway offering panoramic views of Luxembourg City and the Alzette and Pétrusse valleys below.
Afternoon:
- Explore the Grand Ducal Palace, the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. Don’t forget to take a look at the changing of the guards, which takes place every day at 12:00 pm.
- Visit the Bock Casemates, an extensive network of tunnels and fortifications dating back to the 17th century. Guided tours are available in multiple languages.
Evening:

Day 2: Discovering Rural Luxembourg
Morning:
- Take a train or drive to Echternach, the oldest city in Luxembourg and home to the stunning Abbey of Echternach, founded in 698 AD.
- Spend some time exploring the abbey grounds, including the crypt where the miraculous dance of Saint Willibrord is said to have taken place.
Afternoon:
- Head to Müllerthal Region, known as “Little Switzerland,” for hiking and scenic views. There are numerous walking trails suitable for all skill levels, such as the Müllerthal Trail or Schwebschar Trail.
- Visit Beaufort Castle, a medieval fortress perched atop a hill with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside. Guided tours are available.
Evening:
- Return to Luxembourg City and have dinner at Kuone, which specializes in local, seasonal ingredients.
- Take a nighttime stroll along the Alzette River or visit *Platz der Gëlle Fra, also known as the “Golden Lady,” the national monument of Luxembourg honoring its soldiers who gave their lives during World War I.
