Two-Day Itinerary for Traveling in Kenya

Day 1: Exploring Nairobi and its Surroundings

Morning

  • Breakfast: Start your day with a hearty breakfast at one of Nairobi’s popular cafes, such as Artcaffe or Java House.

  • Nairobi National Park (8:30 AM - 12:00 PM): Located just a few minutes from the city center, this unique park is home to a rich variety of wildlife including lions, rhinos, and hippos. It’s a great place for early morning game drives.

Afternoon

  • Lunch (1:00 PM): Head back to the city for lunch. Try Karura Forest Restaurant for a taste of traditional Kenyan cuisine.

  • David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (2:30 - 4:00 PM): Spend the afternoon at this elephant orphanage, where you can get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures.

Evening

  • Dinner (6:00 PM): Enjoy a romantic dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant, famous for its variety of barbecued meats.

  • Bomas of Kenya (7:30 - 9:00 PM): End your day with a cultural experience at Bomas of Kenya, where you can learn about the diverse tribes of Kenya through music, dance, and craft demonstrations.

Day 2: Maasai Mara National Reserve

Early Morning

  • Departure (5:00 AM): Depart early for Maasai Mara National Reserve. Flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to the Mara take about an hour, or you can opt for a road trip, which takes around 6 hours.

Day at Maasai Mara

  • Game Drive (8:00 AM - 12:30 PM): Upon arrival, embark on a morning game drive to spot the “Big Five” - lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard.

  • Lunch (1:00 PM): Enjoy lunch at your lodge or camp within the Mara.

  • Afternoon Game Drive (3:00 PM - 6:30 PM): Continue exploring the Mara on another game drive, this time during the golden hour when light is perfect for photography.

Evening

  • Dinner (7:00 PM) and Maasai Cultural Experience (8:00 PM - 9:30 PM): Spend your evening at a Maasai village, learning about their culture, customs, and traditions through storytelling and dance performances.
