Hungary 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Budapest - Arrival & City Exploration
- Arrive at Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) or Budapest-Ferihegy Airport.
- Check-in at your hotel and freshen up.
- Start your day with a visit to the iconic Hungarian Parliament Building, take a guided tour if possible.
- Cross the Chain Bridge to Buda and explore Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, and Matthias Church.
- In the evening, stroll along Váci Utca for shopping and local cuisine.
- Don’t miss the stunning view of Budapest from Gellért Hill or Széchenyi Chain Bridge at sunset.
Day 2: Budapest - Exploring Buda & Pest
- Morning visit to the Great Market Hall, then explore the Jewish Quarter (Jewish Museum and Dohány Street Synagogue).
- Afternoon: Visit the Széchenyi Thermal Bath for a relaxing spa experience.
- Evening: Explore the Ruin Bars of Budapest (Szimpla Kert is a must), taste local drinks like Unicum and Pálinka.
Day 3: Day Trip to Esztergom, Visegrád & Szentendre
- Travel by train or car to Esztergom, visit the Esztergom Basilica and Castle Hill.
- Continue to Visegrád, explore the Citadel and enjoy a view of the Danube Bend.
- Last stop: Szentendre, an artistic village with open-air museum, galleries, and souvenir shops.
Day 4: Lake Balaton
- Head to Hungary’s largest lake - Lake Balaton.
- Spend the day relaxing on Tihany Peninsula, visit the Tihany Abbey or rent a boat for exploring the lake.
Day 5: Pécs & Villány Wine Region
- Travel south to Pécs and explore its ancient Roman ruins (Amphitheater of Pécs, Mausoleum of the Roman Family), and the Mosque of Pasha Qasim.
- In the afternoon, head towards Villány wine region. Visit local wineries for wine tasting and pairing with traditional Hungarian dishes.
Day 6: Szigliget & Lake Hévíz
- Morning visit to Szigliget Castle ruins and enjoy the view of Balaton.
- Afternoon trip to Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal lake. Spend a relaxing afternoon in the healing waters.
Day 7: Departure - Budapest
- Spend your last hours shopping for souvenirs or visiting any missed attractions in Budapest.
- Depart from Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD).

- Hungary uses the Forint (HUF) as currency. Credit cards are widely accepted, but it’s good to have cash on hand for smaller shops and markets.
- English is widely spoken in Budapest and tourist areas, but less so in rural locations.
- The best time to visit Hungary is from May to September when the weather is pleasant.
