7-Day Itinerary for Guyana

Day 1: Arrival in Georgetown

  • Arrive at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO)
  • Transfer to Hotel (Recommendations: Cara Lodge, Pegasus Hotel)
  • Explore Stabroek Market & City Centre
  • Evening Stroll along the Demerara Riverfront

Things to Know:

  1. Guyana uses the Guyanese Dollar (GYD).
  2. English is the official language, but many also speak Caribbean Creole.
  3. The electrical power in Guyana is 110-120V, similar to the U.S.
  4. Tap water is generally safe to drink in Georgetown, but bottled water is recommended elsewhere.
  5. Be aware of petty crimes like bag snatching and pickpocketing.

Day 2: Kaieteur Falls & Iwokrama Forest

  • Early Morning Flight to Kaieteur Falls (Flights can be arranged through your hotel)
  • Tour Kaieteur Falls (Largest single drop waterfall in the world, home to rare species like Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock)
  • Return to Georgetown & Evening Rest

Day 3: Iwokrama Forest Canopy Walkway

  • Transfer to Iwokrama Forest (Approx. 5 hours drive from Georgetown)
  • Canopy Walkway Tour (Experience the forest from above and spot various species like sloths, monkeys, and toucans)
  • Overnight at Iwokrama River Lodge

Day 4: Raleigh Falls & Return to Georgetown

  • Visit Raleigh Falls (Stunning waterfall within the Iwokrama Forest)
  • Return to Georgetown
  • Evening at Leisure

Day 5: Suriname River & Annai Village

  • Transfer to Lethem, Southern Rupununi Savannah (Approx. 8 hours drive from Georgetown)
  • Boat Tour on the Suriname River (Opportunity to spot wildlife like giant river otters and pink dolphins)
  • Overnight at Annai Village

Day 6: Iwokrama Forest & Macusani Village

  • Return to Lethem, then transfer to Iwokrama Forest
  • Visit Macusani Village (Home of the indigenous Makushi people)
  • Overnight at Iwokrama Forest Lodge

Day 7: Kaieteur National Park & Departure

  • Return to Georgetown
  • Free Time for Shopping or Further Exploration in Georgetown
