Guyana 4 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Georgetown Exploration
- Arrival at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO) - Ensure you have a valid passport and onward travel documents. As of now, Guyana does not require a visa for citizens of many countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, and most European countries. However, it’s always best to check the latest requirements with your country’s embassy or consulate in Guyana.
- Transfer to Georgetown - The capital city of Guyana, Georgetown offers a unique blend of Caribbean, Asian, and African cultures. You can arrange for a taxi or hire a car for the duration of your stay.
Activities:
- Stabroek Market - Experience the hustle and bustle of this vibrant marketplace selling everything from food to textiles.
- National Museum - Learn about Guyana’s history, culture, and biodiversity.
- Waterfront Stroll - Take a leisurely walk along the Demerara River, visit the iconic wooden cathedral of St. George’s Anglican Cathedral, and enjoy local cuisine at the many restaurants.
Things to know:
- Guyana uses the Guyanese Dollar (GYD). Major credit cards are accepted in hotels, shops, and larger restaurants, but it’s always good to have some cash on hand.
- The official language is English, but you might hear Guyanese Creole spoken in daily life.
Day 2: Kaieteur Falls & Iwokrama Forest
- Morning: Fly to Kaieteur Falls - One of the world’s most powerful waterfalls, located within the Kaieteur National Park. Book a flight from Ogle Airport in Georgetown, which takes about 1 hour.
- Afternoon: Iwokrama Forest - After visiting Kaieteur Falls, head to the Iwokrama Forest Canopy Walkway for a bird’s eye view of the rainforest. Overnight stay at Iwokrama River Lodge.
Activities:
- Kaieteur National Park Tour - Explore the park, learn about its geology, and marvel at the stunning Kaieteur Falls.

Day 3: Iwokrama Forest & Rupununi Savannah

- Afternoon: Transfer to Rupununi Savannah - Travel by car or light aircraft to the Rupununi Savannah, home to the endangered Giant Otter and numerous bird species. Overnight stay at a lodge in the savannah.

- Afternoon: Return to Georgetown - Travel back to Georgetown, enjoy some final local cuisine, and prepare for your departure the next day.
Activities:
- Birdwatching at Surama Eco-Lodge - Spot species like the Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock, Harpy Eagle, and Red-and-Green Macaw.
- Night Safari - Search for caimans, agoutis, and other nocturnal creatures along the riverbanks.
Things to know:
- Pack binoculars for birdwatching and a good pair of walking shoes for exploring the rainforest.
