Six-Day Itinerary for Exploring Guadeloupe
Day 1: Arrival and Saint-François
Arrival at Pointe-à-Pitre Airport (PDP) - Upon arrival, you’ll need a valid passport. Citizens from many countries can enter Guadeloupe visa-free for short stays. Check your country’s specific requirements before travel.
Transportation - Renting a car is highly recommended to explore the island freely. Several car rental companies are available at the airport.
Saint-François - Your first stop will be the picturesque town of Saint-François, known for its colorful houses and vibrant market selling local produce, crafts, and spices. Visit the beautiful Notre-Dame de l’Assomption church and stroll along the waterfront promenade.
Day 2: Bouillante and Jacmel Sud Volcano
Bouillante - Head to Bouillante, a town nestled in the heart of Basse-Terre. Visit the Thermal Baths of Deshaies for a relaxing soak.
Jacmel Sud Volcano (La Soufrière) - Hike through lush rainforest to reach the Jacmel Sud volcano’s viewing platform. The hike is moderately challenging but rewarding with breathtaking views.
Day 3: Gourges de la Rivière Bleue and La Caravelle Beach
Gorges de la Rivière Bleue - Visit the stunning blue river gorge, where a series of natural pools form an inviting swimming spot.
La Caravelle Beach - Afterward, head to La Caravelle Beach on the island’s west coast for some relaxation and a chance to swim in the clear waters.
Day 4: Saint-Anne and Marie-Galante
Saint-Anne - Spend the morning exploring the charming village of Saint-Anne, known for its black sand beach and vibrant Creole culture. Don’t miss a visit to the rum distillery Rhum JM.
Marie-Galante - Take a ferry to Marie-Galante, an island rich in colonial history. Visit the Rum distillery Du Cap Estère, stroll through the picturesque town of Saint-Louis, and enjoy a traditional Creole meal at Chez Vrony.
Day 5: Grand-Cul-de-Sac Marin Nature Reserve and Terre-de-Bas Beach
Grand-Cul-de-Sac Marin Nature Reserve - Return to Basse-Terre and visit the Grand-Cul-de-Sac Marin nature reserve, home to numerous bird species and marine turtles. Rent a kayak or paddleboard for a closer look at the mangroves.
Terre-de-Bas Beach - End your day with a visit to Terre-de-Bas beach on the island of Les Saintes, known for its turquoise waters and idyllic setting.
Day 6: Petit-Bourg and Departure
Petit-Bourg - Before departure, explore the colorful town of Petit-Bourg on the island of Basse-Terre. Visit the Museum of Aviation and Naval History, stroll through the picturesque streets, and enjoy a final Creole meal.
Departure - Return your rental car and depart from Pointe-à-Pitre Airport (PDP) with memories of your Guadeloupe adventure to last a lifetime.
