Greenland 3 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Nuuk Exploration

  • Arrival: Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland is the nearest international airport to Greenland. From there, you can book a flight to Greenland’s capital, Nuuk. Remember to check Air Greenland for the latest flight schedules and booking information.

  • Visa Requirements: For most countries, a visa is not required for stays under 90 days. However, always check the latest travel advisories before your trip to ensure you have the correct documentation.

  • Accommodation: There are several hotels and guesthouses in Nuuk such as Hotel Hans Egede, Arctic Comfort Hotel and Guesthouse Kaffe Kassen.

  • Activities: Visit the National Museum of Greenland to learn about Inuit history and culture. Take a stroll around the city center, visit the Husene Church, and enjoy local cuisine at one of the many restaurants. Don’t miss out on trying Greenlandic fish soup (Kalaallit suuppia)!

  • Things to Know: Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but it operates as an autonomous country. Danish Kroner (DKK) is the official currency, and the main language is Greenlandic (Kalaallisut), although most people in Nuuk also speak Danish and English.

Day 2: Godthåb (Nuuk) to Ilimanaq

  • Transportation: Book a boat tour with a local operator such as Discover Greenland or Arctic Adventure Greenland to travel from Nuuk to Ilimanaq.

  • Activities: Spend the day exploring Ilimanaq, a picturesque village nestled between towering mountains and the sea. Go hiking, kayaking, or fishing. Enjoy a traditional Greenlandic dinner at your accommodation.

Day 3: Ilimanaq to Kangerlussuaq

  • Transportation: Return to Nuuk by boat and then fly to Kangerlussuaq (Sønderjyske Lufthavn).

  • Activities: Visit the Greenland Ice Sheet and enjoy a variety of activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, or hiking in this unique Arctic environment. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some wildlife like musk oxen or arctic foxes!

  • Departure: Return to Keflavik International Airport in Iceland for your onward journey.
