6-Day Itinerary for Galway, Ireland
Day 1: Arrival & Settling In
Accommodation: Consider staying at G Hotel & Spa or The House Hotel, both centrally located and offer modern comforts.
Arrival Transportation: Galway has an airport (GWY) with flights from various European cities. Alternatively, you can fly into Dublin Airport (DUB) and take a bus or train to Galway (approx 2-hour journey).
Things to Know: Irish currency is the Euro (€). English is widely spoken, but it’s always nice to learn a few phrases in Gaelic.
Day 2: City Exploration & Eating Out
- Morning: Start your day with breakfast at Ard Bia at Nimmos. Visit the Galway Cathedral and wander around the historic Latin Quarter.
- Afternoon: Explore the Spanish Arch and Claddagh, Galway’s oldest district, known for its famous Claddagh Ring. Don’t miss the Galway City Museum for a glimpse into the city’s history.
- Evening: Have dinner at Kai Café & Restaurant, renowned for its innovative and seasonally driven menu.
Day 3: Outer City Exploration
- Morning: Take a day trip to Connemara, famous for its rugged landscape, traditional villages, and the beautiful Connemara National Park.
- Afternoon: Visit the picturesque Kylemore Abbey and its Victorian Walled Garden. On your way back, stop by Roundstone for a fresh seafood lunch.
Day 4: Aran Islands
- Morning: Take a ferry to either Inis Mór, Inis Meáin, or Inis Oirr. Each island offers unique experiences, from ancient forts and prehistoric dwellings to scenic walks and wildlife spotting.
- Afternoon: Spend the afternoon exploring the islands at your leisure. Don’t forget to try some traditional Irish music in one of the local pubs!
Day 5: West of Galway - Cliffs of Moher & Burren
- Morning: Head west to the Cliffs of Moher. Witness breathtaking views and, if lucky, spot seabirds and even whales.
- Afternoon: Visit the Burren Perfumery in Carron to learn about and purchase some unique Irish perfumes. Have dinner at Gus O’Connor’s in Ballyvaughan, known for its seafood and traditional music.
Day 6: Leisure & Departure
- Morning: Spend your last morning exploring any missed sights or revisiting favorite spots. Have a leisurely breakfast before checking out of your hotel.
- Afternoon/Evening: Depending on your departure time, you might still have time to do some shopping in the city center for souvenirs or enjoy a final pint at Tigh Neachtain’s before heading to the airport.
