7-Day Itinerary for Exploring the Faroe Islands 🇫🇴
Day 1: Arrival in Vágar Airport (VAG) & Göta (Gotwick)
- Arrival: Upon your arrival at Vágar Airport, start your journey with a visit to nearby GĂłta (Gotwick). It’s home to the iconic MĂşlafossur Waterfall cascading into the Atlantic Ocean.
- Transportation: Rent a car is the best way to explore the islands, as public transportation is limited. Book your rental car in advance!
- Accommodation: Stay at a guesthouse or hotel nearby for easy access to the waterfall and further exploration of Vágar Island.
Day 2: Sørvágur & Mykines
- Morning: Explore the charming village of Sørvágur, visit the old church, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
- Afternoon: Take a boat trip to Mykines Island to witness the famous puffins (June - August) and explore the unique grass-roofed houses.
- Evening: Return to your accommodation on Vágar Island.
Day 3: Island of Streymoy – TĂłrshavn, Kirkjubøur & TjørnuvĂk
- Morning: Head to the capital city, TĂłrshavn. Stroll through the old town, visit the National Museum and the Nordic House.
- Afternoon: Travel to Kirkjubøur, where you can see the 13th-century St Olav’s Church and the unique KirkebĂşi farmhouse.
- Evening: Stop by TjørnuvĂk to enjoy the stunning views of the sea stacks at Tröllkonufingur and the red sandstone beach.
Day 4: Island of Eysturoy – GjĂłgv, KlaksvĂk & RituvĂk
- Morning: Drive to GjĂłgv, a picturesque village famous for its natural harbour. Take a walk along the cliffs and enjoy the views.
- Afternoon: Visit KlaksvĂk, known for its vibrant fishing industry, colorful houses, and the historic St Olav’s Church.
- Evening: Arrive at RituvĂk, where you can watch a beautiful sunset over the sea.
Day 5: Island of Borðoy – Vestmanna Bird Cliffs & Leitisvik
- Morning: Join a boat tour to the Vestmanna Bird Cliffs for an unforgettable experience with diverse birdlife, unique rock formations, and stunning landscapes.
- Afternoon: Head to Leitisvik to explore the lighthouse and enjoy a peaceful afternoon by the sea.
- Evening: Return to your accommodation on BorĂ°oy Island or nearby Streymoy Island.
Day 6: Island of Suðuroy – Sumba, Hvannasund & Sørvágsvatn
- Morning: Ferry to SuĂ°uroy Island and visit the charming village of Sumba, with its beautiful old houses and stunning views.
- Afternoon: Continue to Hvannasund, where you can swim in natural pools and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
- Evening: Drive to Sørvágsvatn, a peaceful valley perfect for stargazing on clear nights.
Day 7: Departure from Vágar Airport (VAG)
- Morning: Return your rental car and check out of your accommodation.
- Afternoon/Evening: Spend your last hours exploring more of Vágar Island or relaxing before your flight back home.
