Day 1: Tórshavn & Tinganes
- Morning: Arrive at Vágar Airport. Pick up your rental car and head to Tórshavn, the capital city of the Faroe Islands. Settle into your accommodation.
- Afternoon: Explore Tórshavn’s colorful houses, narrow streets, and the old quarter, Tinganes. Visit the National Museum of the Faroe Islands to learn about the islands’ history and culture.
- Evening: Stroll along the waterfront and enjoy a meal at one of Tórshavn’s restaurants, known for their fresh seafood. Don’t forget to try local dishes like Gráður (fermented fish) and Fiskisuppe (fish soup).
Things to Know:
- The Faroe Islands are an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, so Danish Kroner is accepted everywhere. However, many places also accept Euros.
- The official language is Faroese, but most people also speak fluent English.
- The weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers and waterproof clothing.
Day 2: Northern Islands (Kunoy, Kalsoy & Borðoy)
- Morning: Drive to the village of Kunoy and visit the Saksun Viking Mill and the picturesque village church.
- Afternoon: Take a ferry to Kalsoy Island to see the Seal Woman Statue and the Kallur Lighthouse.
- Evening: Return to Borðoy Island, visit the Nordic House cultural center, and enjoy dinner in Gjáargarður, one of Tórshavn’s most charming neighborhoods.
Day 3: Southern Islands (Streymoy & Suðuroy)
- Morning: Drive to Saksun on Streymoy Island and explore the village and its unique irrigation system.
- Afternoon: Take a ferry to Suðuroy Island, visit the old settlement of Sumba, and explore the island’s unique landscapes and traditional houses.
- Evening: Return to Borðoy Island, have dinner in Klaksvik, and spend the night in Tórshavn.
Day 4: Vágar & Mykines
- Morning: Drive to Miøravatn Lake and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
- Afternoon: Head to the village of Gásadalur to see the Múlafossur Waterfall and the iconic view of the island of Mykines and its puffins (from May to August).
- Evening: Drive back to Vágar Airport for your departure.
Visa Requirements: Citizens of the Schengen Area, EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, and Iceland can visit the Faroe Islands without a visa for up to 3 months. Other nationalities may need a visa; check with the Faroese Immigration Service or your travel agency for specific requirements.
Transportation: The best way to get around the Faroe Islands is by rental car, as public transportation is limited. Ferry services are available between some of the islands. Remember to drive carefully on the winding roads!
