Falkland Islands 7-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Stanley (Arrival & Orientation)
- Arrive at Stanley Airport. Check-in at your accommodation.
- Visit the Falklands Museum and National Memorial Chapel to understand the islands’ history.
- Stroll around the charming town of Stanley, visit Gypsy Cove to see Magellanic Penguins (between October and January).
- Evening: Enjoy local cuisine at a restaurant like The Peat Stack or The Cross Keys.
Day 2: Stanley (City Exploration & Wildlife)
- Take a day trip to Volunteer Point for rockhopper penguins, elephant seals, and albatrosses.
- Visit the nearby Goat Hill for panoramic views of Stanley and the surrounding countryside.
- Spend the afternoon exploring Berkley House, the oldest building in Stanley, and the Falkland Islands Government House.
Day 3: Port Stanley - West Point Island (Wildlife Expedition)
- Book a boat tour to West Point Island for a chance to see black-browed albatrosses up close.
- Explore the island’s rugged landscapes and historic lighthouse.
- Return to Stanley in the evening.
Day 4: Camp - Carcass Island (Nature Experience)
- Travel to Carcass Island, where you can camp overnight.
- Spend the day exploring the island, observing its wildlife, and learning about its unique ecosystem.
Day 5: Carcass Island - Saunders Island (Wildlife & Scenery)
- Take a boat ride to Saunders Island to observe more bird life, including rockhopper penguins and black-browed albatrosses.
- Return to Carcass Island for another night of camping under the stars.
Day 6: Camp - New Island (Wildlife & Scenery)
- Travel to New Island, home to a large colony of rockhopper penguins and black-browed albatrosses.
- Spend the day exploring the island and enjoying its scenic beauty.
- Return to Carcass Island for your final night of camping.
Day 7: Departure (Farewell)
- Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for last-minute souvenir shopping or sightseeing in Stanley before heading back to the airport.
Things to Know:
- The Falkland Islands use British Pounds as their currency.
- Electricity is 240 volts and uses type G plugs (three square pins).
- Internet connectivity can be limited, especially in more remote areas.
- The climate is temperate maritime with cool summers and mild winters. Pack accordingly.
Visa Requirements:
- British and Irish citizens do not require a visa to enter the Falkland Islands.
- Other nationalities should check with their embassy for visa requirements.
Transportation:
- The primary mode of transportation is by boat, car, or bus. Most boat tours are organized by local operators. Renting a car can also be an option if you prefer self-guided exploration.
