Falkland Islands 5-Day Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Stanley City Exploration
- Arrival at Mount Pleasant Airport. Note: Due to the military airfield, all civilian flights land here.
- Check-in at your accommodation and freshen up.
- Start your day with a visit to Stanley Town, the capital city. Explore Stanley’s unique blend of Victorian architecture and Patagonian scenery.
- Visit Stanley Museum for an insight into the island’s history, particularly the 1982 Falklands War.
- Lunch at a local café. Try the famous Falkland Islands Dassie Pie!
- In the afternoon, head to Gypsy Cove, a small, picturesque beach perfect for wildlife spotting. Keep an eye out for Magellanic penguins and sea lions!
- Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: East Falkland Island Tour
- Breakfast at your accommodation.
- Journey to Volunteer Point (approx. 3 hours) - home to the largest colony of king penguins in the Falklands.
- Spend the day marveling at the king penguins, gentoo penguins, and Magellanic penguins. Don’t forget your binoculars for spotting albatrosses!
- Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy amidst the stunning natural beauty.
- Return to Stanley in the evening.
- Dinner at your accommodation or a local restaurant.
Day 3: West Falkland Island Discovery
- After breakfast, embark on a full-day tour of West Falkland Island.
- Visit Port Howard - a historic whaling station and the largest natural deepwater harbor in the Falklands.
- Continue to Camp, where you can see black-browed albatrosses and rockhopper penguins at New Island.
- Lunch during your journey.
- In the afternoon, explore Saunders Island for more wildlife spotting opportunities.
- Return to Stanley in the evening.
- Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 4: Camp and Carcass Island Visit
- Breakfast at your accommodation.
- Morning boat trip to Carcass Island (approx. 2 hours). The island is home to a large colony of Magellanic penguins and various bird species.
- Spend the day exploring the island, taking in the breathtaking scenery and observing the wildlife.
- Lunch on the island.
- In the afternoon, return to Stanley via Camp (approx. 2 hours).
- Dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 5: Leisure Day & Departure
- Spend your last day exploring any sights you may have missed or revisiting favorite spots.
- Check out from your accommodation and make your way to Mount Pleasant Airport for your departure.
- Don’t forget to buy souvenirs before departing!
Important Information:
Visa Requirements: Citizens of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and most EU countries do not need a visa to enter the Falkland Islands. Other nationalities should check with their local embassy or consulate for the latest information on visa requirements.
