Equatorial Guinea 7-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Malabo (Arrival)

  • Arrive at Malabo International Airport.
  • Check-in at your hotel and freshen up.
  • Explore the city center, visit the Government Palace, and enjoy local street food at the Central Market.
  • Visit the National Museum for a glimpse into Equatorial Guinea’s history and culture.
  • Enjoy the sunset at Christ of Peace (Cristo de Paz) monument.

Day 2: Malabo & Santa Isabel

  • Morning visit to Basilica Cathedral of Our Lady Star of the Sea for a peaceful start.
  • Take a boat trip to Santa Isabel, one of the Bioko Island’s main towns. Visit the town center and local markets.
  • Afternoon return to Malabo and rest at your hotel.
  • Evening stroll along the beach at Luba or Ela Ngua.

Day 3: Luba Falls & Luzia Beach

  • Day trip to Luba Falls, enjoy a picnic, and take a dip in the pool below if weather permits.
  • Continue to Luzia Beach for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling.
  • Return to Malabo in the evening.

Day 4: Corisco Island

  • Take a speedboat or ferry to Corisco Island (arrangements can be made through your hotel).
  • Explore the island, visit the lighthouse, and enjoy the pristine beaches.
  • Meet local Fang people and learn about their traditional fishing methods.
  • Overnight at a local guesthouse or return to Malabo for accommodation.

Day 5: Bata (Travel Day)

  • Travel by plane or ferry to Bata, Equatorial Guinea’s largest city on the mainland.
  • Check-in at your hotel and freshen up.
  • Visit the Oceanographic Museum and the Monumento a la Independencia.
  • Walk around the bustling city center, enjoy local food, and shop for souvenirs.

Day 6: Moka National Park

  • Day trip to Moka National Park.
  • Take a guided tour through the rainforest, spot wildlife such as gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants, and various bird species.
  • Overnight camping (with basic facilities) inside the park or return to Bata for accommodation.

Day 7: Departure

  • Spend the morning relaxing or exploring more of Bata city.
  • Transfer to Bata Airport for your departure flight.

Things to Know:

  1. Visa requirements: Most nationalities require a visa to enter Equatorial Guinea. Check with your local embassy for current information.
  2. Currency: Central African CFA Franc (XAF) is the official currency. Credit cards are not widely accepted, so it’s recommended to have cash on hand.
  3. Language: Spanish and French are the official languages. However, many people speak their native Fang language as well.
  4. Electricity: The power sockets used in Equatorial Guinea are type C (Europlug) and D (French 2-pin).
  5. Safety: Always be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded areas. Petty crime can occur, especially in urban areas.
  6. Health: Vaccinations for yellow fever, hepatitis A, and typhoid are recommended. Malaria prophylaxis may also be necessary depending on the time of year and location.
  7. Transportation: Taxis are widely available but make sure to agree on a price before starting your journey.
