Egypt 6-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Cairo (Arrival)
- Arrive at Cairo International Airport.
- Visa Requirements: Most nationalities require a visa to enter Egypt. You can obtain an e-visa online before your trip or get a visa on arrival at the airport.
- Transportation: Taxis are readily available outside the airport, or you can arrange for a private transfer in advance.
- Activities: Visit the Egyptian Museum housing the world’s most extensive collection of pharaonic antiquities. Explore the bustling Khan el Khalili Bazaar.
- Tips: Cairo traffic can be chaotic, so allow extra time for travel. Haggling is common in the markets.
Day 2: Giza Pyramids & Saqqara
- Transportation: Hire a car with a driver or join a tour group.
- Activities: Visit the famous Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the Solar Boat Museum. Explore the ancient step pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara.
- Tips: Bring sun protection as it can be very hot during the day. The pyramids are best visited early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.
Day 3: Alexandria
- Transportation: Take a train or drive to Alexandria (about 3 hours from Cairo).
- Activities: Visit the Alexandria Library, one of the largest libraries in the world. Check out the Pompey’s Pillar and the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa. Enjoy the Mediterranean Sea at Corniche Ghali Sabry.
- Tips: Alexandria has a milder climate compared to Cairo, so it’s comfortable to visit year-round.
Day 4: Rosetta & El Alamein
- Transportation: Rent a car or join a tour group to visit Rosetta and El Alamein (about 2.5 hours from Alexandria).
- Activities: See the Rosetta Stone, the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, at the Rosetta Museum. Learn about the World War II battles in El Alamein at the Military Museum and the War Memorial Cemetery.
- Tips: Remember to bring water as it can get hot during the day.
Day 5: Luxor (Overnight Train)
- Transportation: Take an overnight train from Alexandria or Cairo to Luxor.
- Activities: Visit the Karnak Temple Complex and the Luxor Temple. Explore the famous Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, and the Temple of Hatshepsut.
- Tips: The temples are best visited in the early morning to avoid the heat and crowds. Consider hiring a guide for a more enriching experience.
Day 6: Edfu & Aswan (Overnight Train)
- Transportation: Take an overnight train from Luxor to Edfu or Aswan.
- Activities: In Edfu, visit the Temple of Horus. In Aswan, see the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk, and the beautiful Philae Temple. Take a boat ride to the island of Agilkia to visit the temples of Isis at Philae.
- Tips: The Nile cruise is a popular way to explore Aswan and Luxor. If you have extra time, consider adding a trip to Abu Simbel (requires an additional day).
