East Timor 5-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Dili (Arrival & City Exploration)
- Arrive at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in Dili, East Timor’s capital city.
- Check into your hotel and freshen up.
- Visit the National Parliament of Timor-Leste and the Cristo Rei Statue for panoramic views of the city.
- Explore the historic area around Santa Cruz Church, where a significant event in East Timor’s struggle for independence took place.
- Visit the Museum of National Memorial of Resistance (known as “Cristo Rei” or the “Resistência”).
- Enjoy local cuisine at one of Dili’s restaurants, such as Tropikala or Sausal Restaurant.
Day 2: Dili to Baucau (Eastern Route)
- Travel by car or bus from Dili to Baucau, approximately a 1.5-hour journey along the scenic coastal road.
- Visit the Our Lady of Fatima Church in Baucau, one of East Timor’s oldest churches.
- Explore the traditional market and try some local delicacies.
- Relax on the beautiful beaches of Baucau such as Hera Beach or Lospalos Beach.
- Visit the traditional village of Maubisse, located in the mountains, to learn about the Fataluku culture.
Day 3: Baucau to Atauro Island
- Take a boat from Dili (approximately 2 hours) or Baucau (approximately 4-5 hours) to Atauro Island.
- Spend the day exploring the island’s pristine beaches, such as Nihiwatu Beach and Com Beach.
- Snorkel or dive to discover the rich marine life around the island.
- Visit the traditional Tetum village of Lahane.
- Return to Dili in the evening.
Day 4: Dili (Exploring the Surroundings)
- Take a day trip to the picturesque district of Laclubar, located about an hour’s drive from Dili.
- Visit Lake Iana, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery and traditional Tetum villages.
- Explore the nearby caves and waterfalls for a unique experience.
- Return to Dili in the evening and enjoy a night at leisure.
Day 5: Maubisse & Venilale (Western Route)
- Travel by car or bus from Dili to Maubisse, approximately a 2-hour journey along the scenic western route.
- Visit the traditional Fataluku village of Manatuto on the way.
- In Maubisse, explore the local market and enjoy a meal at a local restaurant.
- Continue your journey to Venilale, a traditional Tetum village located in the mountains.
- Spend some time interacting with locals and learning about their culture and traditions.
- Return to Dili in the evening for your departure the next day.

- Visa: Most nationalities require a visa to enter East Timor. You can apply for an eVisa online through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation website or obtain one upon arrival at the airport. Check the latest requirements before traveling.
- Transportation: Taxis, buses, and car rentals are available in Dili and other major towns. Boat services operate between Dili and Atauro Island.
- Currency: The official currency is the U.S. dollar (USD). Some establishments may accept East Timorese dollars (XAF), but USD is widely used.
- Language: Tetum and Portuguese are the official languages, but English is also spoken in many areas.
