Cyprus 5-Day Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Larnaca and Exploring the City
- Arrive at Larnaca International Airport. Check visa requirements before traveling. Many countries do not require a visa for stays under 90 days.
- Explore Larnaca city. Visit the Church of Saint Lazarus, Hala Sultan Tekke, and Larnaca Salt Lake (best during spring or autumn). Enjoy local cuisine at Finikoudes beachfront restaurants.
Day 2: Visit Kourion, Limassol and Wine Tasting
- Morning: Travel to ancient Kourion archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
- Afternoon: Head to Limassol city. Explore Limassol Castle, Limassol Marina, and enjoy shopping at Makarios Avenue.
- Evening: Visit a local winery for wine tasting and dinner. Some popular choices are ETKO winery, Tsiakkas Winery, and Loosie’s Wine.
Day 3: Troodos Mountains and Omodos Village
- Morning: Drive to the Troodos Mountains. Enjoy hiking at Kalypso’s Waterfall or visit the Kykkos Monastery, one of the richest monasteries in Cyprus.
- Afternoon: Visit the picturesque village of Omodos. Wander through its narrow cobbled streets and explore the Church of the Cross and the Byzantine Museum.
Day 4: Nicosia, the Capital City
- Morning: Travel to Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus. Visit the Venetian Walls, Ledra Street Crossing, Buyuk Khanim Mosque, and the Ommagarona Monastery.
- Afternoon: Explore the vibrant streets of Laiki Yitonia Market (open on Saturdays) or relax at one of the city’s many cafes.
Day 5: Famagusta and Ghost Town of Varosha
- Morning: Drive to Famagusta and visit the stunning walled city of Famagusta, including the Church of St. Nicholas, Salamis archaeological site, and Othello’s Castle.
- Afternoon: Visit the Ghost Town of Varosha, abandoned since 1974. Access is only possible through guided tours. Keep in mind that it might not be for everyone as it can be a poignant experience.
Transportation: Renting a car is the best way to explore Cyprus, but public buses are also available. Make sure to drive on the left side of the road, as in the UK.
Things to Know: The official language is Greek, but English is widely spoken. Euros (EUR) is the currency used in the Republic of Cyprus. Tipping around 10% is common at restaurants.
