Croatia 2 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring Split
Activities:
- Start your day with a visit to the famous Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the heart of Split.
- Walk through the narrow, cobbled streets filled with local shops, cafes, and markets in the city center.
- Take a stroll along the Riva Promenade and enjoy the stunning Adriatic Sea views.
- Visit the Peristil Square, where you can see many cultural events taking place throughout the year.
- For an amazing panoramic view of Split, head to the Marjan Hill.
- In the evening, take a boat tour to explore the islands off the coast of Split.
Things to Know:
- Croatian Kuna is the official currency. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities but smaller towns and villages may only accept cash.
- The standard plug type in Croatia is Type F, so remember to pack an adapter if needed.
- Croatia operates on the 230 V, 50 Hz power supply system.
- Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory; a service charge is often included in the bill at restaurants and hotels.
Transportation:
- Split Airport (SPU) is well connected with many European cities. You can take a taxi or a bus to reach the city center.
- Navigating the city is easy by foot, but there are also local buses and trams available for longer distances.
Day 2: Day Trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park
Activities:
- Early morning departure from Split (approx. 3 hours drive) to reach Plitvice Lakes National Park.
- Spend the day exploring the breathtaking 16 terraced lakes, interconnected by waterfalls, cascades and cave barriers.
- Walk along the wooden paths and bridges that take you through the heart of the park.
- Rent a boat to enjoy the serene beauty of the lower lakes.
- Visit the Veliki Slap (Great Waterfall), which is the highest waterfall in Croatia.
- In the evening, return to Split for dinner and relaxation.
Things to Know:
- Wear comfortable walking shoes as there are numerous stairs throughout the park.
- Bring a water bottle as it’s important to stay hydrated during your visit.
- The park is open daily from 6 am to 6 pm in summer and 7 am to 3 pm in winter.
- There are several restaurants and cafes inside the park for food and drinks.
Visa Requirements:
- Citizens of many countries, including most EU nations, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Check your country’s specific requirements before traveling.
Transportation:
- Bus tours are the best way to travel to Plitvice Lakes from Split. Tours can be booked online or at local tour agencies in Split. Driving yourself is also an option, but parking inside the park can be challenging.
