Costa Rica 7-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: San José (Arrival & City Exploration)

  • Arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José, the capital city of Costa Rica.
  • Check into your accommodation and rest if needed.
  • Visit the National Museum to learn about the country’s history and culture.
  • Explore Mercado Central for local food, crafts, and souvenirs.
  • Things to know: The official language is Spanish, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas. The currency is Costa Rican Colón.

Day 2: Arenal Volcano & La Fortuna

  • Travel to La Fortuna, home to the impressive Arenal Volcano (approximately 3 hours drive from San José).
  • Take a guided hike around the Arenal Volcano National Park.
  • Relax at the nearby hot springs after a day of hiking.
  • Activity: Adventure seekers can opt for white-water rafting, zip-lining, or horseback riding.

Day 3: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

  • Travel to Monteverde (approximately 2 hours from La Fortuna).

Day 5: Guanacaste National Park & Santa Rosa National Park

Day 6: Manuel Antonio National Park

  • Spend the day exploring the park, with its beaches, rainforest trails, and abundant wildlife.

Day 7: Departure from San José

  • Return to San José (approximately 3.5 hours from Manuel Antonio).
  • Spend the rest of the day shopping for souvenirs, visiting any missed sights, or relaxing at a local café before departing from Juan Santamaría International Airport.

Transportation: Renting a car is a popular way to travel around Costa Rica, but buses and tours are also available. Be aware of road conditions, particularly during the rainy season.
