Cocos (Keeling) Islands 6-Day Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Settling In
- Arrival at Home Reef - The Cocos (Keeling) Islands are an Australian external territory located in the Indian Ocean. You’ll be arriving at Home Reef, where the main population resides on West Island.
- Check-in at Accommodation - There are a few accommodation options available, such as the Cocos Keeling Island Resort or private rentals. Book in advance to ensure availability.
- Orientation & Island Tour - Spend the afternoon getting to know your surroundings and exploring the island’s amenities, including the local store, post office, and café.
- Things to Know - The islands use Australian currency (AUD), and English is widely spoken. Be respectful of the local culture and customs.
- Visa Requirements - As an Australian external territory, Australian citizens do not need a visa to enter the Cocos Islands. For other nationalities, check with the Australian Immigration website for the latest requirements.
Day 2: West Island Exploration
- Visit the Lighthouse - Head to Direction Island to see the historic lighthouse with panoramic views of the islands.
- Snorkeling at the Lagoon - Spend the afternoon snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon, where you’ll encounter a variety of marine life.
- Sunset Dinner - Enjoy a relaxing dinner at one of the island’s restaurants, such as the Bluewater Cafe or Cocos Island Resort Restaurant.
Day 3: Oliver Island & Snorkeling
- Ferry to Oliver Island - Take a ferry to Oliver Island, known for its pristine beaches and excellent snorkeling spots.
- Snorkeling at The Titanic - Explore the wreck of the SS MV TSS The Titanic, a shipwreck that provides an amazing underwater playground for marine life.
- Relax on the Beach - Spend the afternoon lounging on the beautiful white sand beaches of Oliver Island.
Day 4: Visit Pulu Dosa & Pulu Claudia
- Boat Trip to Pulu Dosa & Pulu Claudia - Take a boat trip to these uninhabited islands for a day of exploration and snorkeling.
- Snorkeling at Pulu Dosa - Discover the rich marine life around Pulu Dosa, including sea turtles and vibrant coral reefs.
- Relax on Pulu Claudia Beach - Enjoy a picnic lunch on the secluded beach of Pulu Claudia before returning to West Island.
Day 5: Visit North Keeling & South Keeling Islands
- Ferry to North & South Keeling Islands - Take a ferry to explore these smaller islands, home to large populations of seabirds.
- Bird Watching - Keep an eye out for the Cocos Island’s famous seabirds, including the Red-tailed Tropicbird and the Christmas Island Frigatebird.
- Snorkeling at Horseshoe Reef - Stop by Horseshoe Reef for a final snorkel before returning to West Island.
Day 6: Departure
- Last Minute Shopping & Sightseeing - Spend your last day exploring any sights you may have missed, and do some souvenir shopping at the local store.
- Farewell Dinner - Enjoy a farewell dinner with new friends made during your stay.
- Departure - Bid farewell to this beautiful paradise as you depart from Home Reef.
