Central African Republic (CAR) 4-Day Travel Itinerary

Day 1: Bangui City Exploration
- Morning: Arrival in Bangui, the capital city of CAR. Check into a hotel (recommended: Hotel Idea, Hotel des Diputes, or Hotel Maison Blanche). Freshen up and have breakfast.
- Afternoon: Visit the Central African Republic’s Independence Monument, the Mosque of Bangui, and the Basilica of Our Lady of Fatima. Explore the vibrant local market “Marche de la Liberté.”
- Evening: Enjoy a traditional CAR meal at one of the city’s restaurants (such as Le Tropicana or Le Marabout).
Things to know:
- Bangui is the only official capital city in the world located on an island, situated in the Ubangi River.
- The official language is French, but Sango is widely spoken.
Day 2: Dzanga Sangha Protected Areas
- Morning: Early departure from Bangui to Dzanga Sangha Protected Areas (approx. 8 hours drive or flight available). Arrive and check into a lodge (recommended: Dzanga Camp or Deng Deng).
- Afternoon: Afternoon guided walk in Dzanga Sangha National Park for lowland gorilla tracking.
- Evening: Evening bushmeat dinner at the lodge.
Things to know:
- Dzanga Sangha Protected Areas are home to 13 primate species, including western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, and monkeys.
- Book a guide and permission in advance for visiting the park.
Day 3: Bayanga and Bayanga Bai
- Morning: Morning guided walk to Bayanga Bai, a clearing where elephants come to drink and bathe. Observe these gentle giants up close.
- Afternoon: After lunch at the lodge, return to Bangui or explore other parts of Dzanga Sangha Protected Areas (e.g., Kongou Bai for bongo antelope sightings).
- Evening: Return to Bangui and have dinner at a local restaurant.
Things to know:
- Bayanga Bai is one of the most important tourist attractions in CAR, attracting elephants, buffaloes, and other wildlife.
- The best time for animal sightings is during the dry season (November to February).
Day 4: Bangui City and Departure
- Morning: Spend your last few hours in CAR exploring any remaining sights in Bangui, such as the Presidential Palace or the National Museum of Central African Republic.
- Afternoon/Evening: Depart from Bangui.
Visa Requirements:
- Most travelers require a visa to enter CAR. The process can take up to 4 weeks, so apply well in advance. A single-entry tourist visa is valid for 3 months.
Transportation:
