Cancún Travel Itinerary (6 Days): Exploring the Yucatan Peninsula
Day 1: Arrival & Settling In
- Arrive at Cancún International Airport. You can take a taxi or pre-arrange transportation to your hotel. We recommend staying in the Hotel Zone for easy access to beaches and attractions.
- Hotel Option: Nizuc Resort & Spa or JW Marriott Cancún Resort & Spa.
- Afternoon: Relax at your hotel’s beach or pool, acclimatize to the time zone.
- Evening: Explore the Playa Tortugas area in the Hotel Zone for dinner and local shopping. Try “El Fogon” for authentic Mexican cuisine.
Day 2: Isla Mujeres
- Take a ferry from Punta Sam (in the Hotel Zone) to Isla Mujeres. Enjoy snorkeling with sea turtles, explore the island’s charming streets, and visit the Temple of Ixchel.
- Lunch: Grab a bite at “Taco Queto” for some delicious local street food.
- Return to Cancún in the evening and rest.
Day 3: Chichen Itza & Valladolid
- Take a guided tour or rent a car to visit Chichen Itza (Mayan Ruins). Continue to Valladolid for lunch and explore this picturesque town.
- Lunch: “Sol y Sombra” in Valladolid offers Yucatecan cuisine. Don’t miss the cochinita pibil!
- Return to Cancún in the evening.
Day 4: Tulum & Akumal
- Visit Tulum, an ancient Mayan walled city overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Enjoy snorkeling at nearby Akumal Beach with sea turtles.
- Lunch: “Coco Tulum” in Tulum offers fresh seafood and a beautiful beachfront setting.
- Return to Cancún in the evening.
Day 5: Xcaret Park
- Spend a day at Xcaret Park, an eco-archaeological park featuring Mayan ruins, snorkeling, jungle trails, cultural performances, and more.
- Lunch & Dinner: Food is included in the park’s admission fee. Enjoy various cuisines from around Mexico.
Day 6: Relaxation & Departure
- Spend your last day relaxing on the beach, exploring local markets for souvenirs, or visiting any attractions you may have missed.
- Lunch: “La Palapa” at Puerto Cancún offers a casual atmosphere with great food and stunning views of the Nichupté Lagoon.
- Prepare for your departure from Cancún International Airport.
Things to Know:
- Mexican Pesos are the local currency, but many places in Cancún also accept US Dollars.
- Be respectful when visiting Mayan ruins and always follow guidelines provided by staff.
- Haggle prices at markets for souvenirs.
- Stay safe: Avoid walking alone in secluded areas late at night, especially in downtown Cancún.
- Pack sunscreen, insect repellent, and a hat for outdoor activities.
- Drink bottled water to avoid any stomach issues.
- Taxis are readily available, but be sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.
