Burkina Faso 2 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring Ouagadougou & its Surroundings
Morning:
- Arrive at Ouagadougou Airport (OUAG) and clear immigration and customs. Visa information
- Check-in to your hotel, freshen up, and have breakfast. Recommended hotels: Hotel du Fleuve, Laico Ouagadougou, or similar.
- Visit the Institut Français for a taste of Burkina Faso’s vibrant arts scene. Check out the current exhibitions and maybe pick up some souvenirs.
Afternoon:
- Head to Zongo-Kamboinsé, Ouagadougou’s bustling market area, for an authentic local experience. Try some traditional Burkinabé dishes such as Tô (maize meal) and Ryé (spicy groundnut sauce).
- Visit the Monument aux Heroïnes du Faso in memory of the women who fought for Burkina Faso’s independence.
Evening:
- Enjoy a sundowner at one of Ouagadougou’s rooftop bars, such as Le Kalabougne or Le Jardin de la Rue.
- Have dinner at Cafe de la Paix, a popular spot with expats and travelers offering French and Burkinabé cuisine.
Day 2: Fada N’Gourma & the Gourma Region
Morning:
- Depart early for Fada N’Gourma, the gateway to the Gourma Region. The journey takes approximately 7 hours by road. You can also arrange a flight from Ouagadougou if you prefer.
- Upon arrival, visit the Museum of the Gourma to learn more about this fascinating region’s history and culture.
Afternoon:
- Embark on a guided tour to experience the traditional way of life in the Gourma Region. Visit local villages such as Daboré Ouaré and meet the Peul (Fulani) people who are renowned for their cattle herding skills.
- Explore the stunning landscapes of the Pendjari National Park, home to elephants, lions, hippos, and over 400 bird species. You may even spot some crocodiles at the nearby Ouémé River.
Evening:
- Return to Fada N’Gourma for dinner at a local restaurant, such as Le Campement.
- Spend the night at Hotel du Pendjari or similar accommodation.

- The official language is French, but Mòoré and Dioula are also widely spoken. Learning a few phrases can help make your trip more enjoyable.
