Brunei Darussalam 2 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Exploring the Capital - Bandar Seri Begawan

  • Morning:

    • Start your day with a visit to Jame’ Asr Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque. This architectural marvel can accommodate up to 1,500 worshipers and is a perfect example of contemporary Islamic architecture. (Dress code: Modest attire required, long pants for men, long skirts or trousers for women.)
    • Next, head to the Istana Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei. The palace is beautifully lit and offers stunning reflections on its surrounding lake. (Photography from outside is allowed.)

  • Afternoon:

    • Visit the Brunei History Centre to learn about the rich history and culture of Brunei. It houses an extensive collection of artifacts, maps, photographs, and documents related to Brunei’s past.
    • Take a stroll around the Bandar Seri Begawan Waterfront. Enjoy local delicacies at one of the food stalls or restaurants offering a variety of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cuisines.

  • Evening:

    • Explore the vibrant nightlife at The Mall Gadong or Tutong Night Market. Try some local favorites like Nasi Katok (grilled rice with spicy chicken) or Roti Telur (egg omelette wrap).

Day 2: Adventure in the Ulu Temburong National Park

  • Morning:

    • Transfer to the Royal Regalia Building for a quick look at the royal regalia and costumes of the Brunei Sultanate.
    • Depart early morning for the Ulu Temburong National Park. Book a canopy walkway tour to experience the lush rainforest from a height of up to 40 meters above the forest floor.

  • Afternoon:

    • Have lunch at a local camp within the park, and then spend the afternoon exploring the rainforest with a guided jungle trek. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as proboscis monkeys, orangutans, and various species of birds.
    • Return to Bandar Seri Begawan in the evening.

Things to Know:

  1. Brunei Darussalam uses the Bruneian dollar (BND). Credit cards are widely accepted in urban areas, but it’s always good to carry some local currency for smaller purchases and street food.
  2. Islamic customs should be respected, especially during Ramadan when eating, drinking, and smoking are prohibited during daylight hours in public places.
  3. Taxis and Grab (similar to Uber) are widely available, but it’s recommended to use licensed vehicles for safety reasons.
