Benin 5-Day Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Cotonou (Airport - City Center)
- Activities: Acclimatize, explore the local markets like Dantokpa Market, and visit the Museum of History & Arts.
- Things to Know: The official language is French, but Fon, Yoruba, and Mina are also widely spoken. Local currency is the West African CFA Franc (XOF).
- Visa Requirements: Most nationalities require a visa, which can be obtained upon arrival at the airport for 30,000 XOF or online before your trip. Check the latest requirements from your local Beninese embassy or consulate.
- Transportation: Taxis are readily available and affordable. Make sure to negotiate the price before you get in.
Day 2: Exploring Grand Popo & Ouidah (Cotonou - Grand Popo - Ouidah)
- Activities: Visit the beach in Grand Popo, explore the Fetish Market and Voodoo Temples in Ouidah. Don’t miss the annual Voodoo Festival if you’re visiting between July and August.

Day 3: Allada & Abomey (Ouidah - Allada - Abomey)

Day 4: Ganvie & Lake Nokoue (Abomey - Ganvie)
- Activities: Visit the stilted village of Ganvie on Lake Nokoue, also known as the Venice of Africa. Take a boat tour and enjoy the local cuisine.
- Things to Know: It’s recommended to use a local guide for the boat tour. Respect the local culture and traditions during your visit.

Day 5: Return to Cotonou & Departure
- Activities: Spend your last day shopping for souvenirs at the local markets, or relax at a beachside hotel in Cotonou before your departure.
- Things to Know: Haggling is expected when shopping at markets. Ensure you have enough time to reach the airport for your flight.
- Transportation: Taxis are available for transportation from your accommodation to the airport. Allow plenty of time for traffic and check-in procedures.
