Bagan 4-Day Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Temple Exploration
- Morning: Arrive at Nyaung U Airport or Heho Airport and transfer to your hotel. Check-in and freshen up.
- Afternoon: Visit some of the iconic temples like Ananda Temple, Shwezigon Pagoda, and Htilominlo Temple. Have lunch at a local restaurant such as Oh-Bo Kitchen or Bagan Café.
- Evening: Take a sunset cruise on the Ayeyarwady River for stunning views of the temples. Dine at Aroma Restaurant for Burmese and Western dishes.
- Overnight: Stay at Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary Resort or Bagan Lodge, both offering comfortable accommodation and easy access to temples.
Day 2: Temple Hopping & Horse Cart Ride
- Morning: Explore less-crowded temples like Sulamani Temple, Thatbyinnyu Temple, and Dhammayangyi Temple. Don’t miss the intricate murals inside these temples.
- Afternoon: Have lunch at a riverside restaurant like Bawgyo Island Restaurant. In the afternoon, take a horse cart ride to discover hidden gems and local villages.
- Evening: Visit the nearby village of Minnanthu for sunset views and authentic Burmese food at restaurants such as Golden Bagan Villa or Myo Min Thar restaurant.
- Overnight: Stay at your hotel from Day 1.
Day 3: Temple Climbing, Hot Air Balloon Ride, & Pottery Making
- Morning: Climb one of the taller temples like Shwesandaw Pagoda for sunrise views. Alternatively, book a hot air balloon ride for an unforgettable experience (advance booking is recommended).
- Afternoon: Learn pottery making at Myinkabar Village, known for its traditional pottery techniques. Have lunch at a local eatery nearby.

Day 4: Temple Visit, Farewell Sunset, & Departure

- Afternoon: Transfer to Nyaung U Airport or Heho Airport for departure. If time allows, visit the nearby monasteries and enjoy one last sunset view over Bagan.
Things to Know & Tips:
- Etiquette: Always remove shoes before entering temples, dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees), and never touch Buddha images.
- Weather: Bagan is hot and dry year-round; pack sunscreen, hats, and comfortable clothing. Rainy season is from May to October.
- Transportation: Taxis, horse carts, e-bikes, and motorbikes are available for transportation within Bagan. Pre-book airport transfers for convenience.
- ATMs & Money Exchange: Limited ATMs are available in Nyaung U and Old Bagan; carry enough cash for your stay. Most restaurants and shops accept credit cards but it’s best to have local currency (Myanmar Kyat).
- Internet Connectivity: Mobile network coverage is generally good in Bagan, although 4G speeds can be slow at times. Wi-Fi is available at hotels and some restaurants.
