Austria 2 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Vienna
Morning:
- Start your day with a hearty Austrian breakfast at a local café.
- Visit Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburg monarchs. Don’t forget to explore the beautiful gardens!
- Head to the Historic Center of Vienna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and marvel at St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
Afternoon:
- Visit the Belvedere Palace and Museum, home to Austrian art dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, including Gustav Klimt’s famous “The Kiss.”
- Take a stroll along the Ringstrasse, Vienna’s main boulevard, and enjoy its stunning architecture.
- End your day with a traditional Viennese dinner at Naschmarkt, Vienna’s most popular market.

Day 2: Salzburg
Morning:
- Take a train from Vienna to Salzburg. The journey takes approximately 3 hours.
- Visit Mirabell Palace and Gardens, made famous by “The Sound of Music.”
- Explore the old town of Salzburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Afternoon:
- Take a tour of Mozart’s Birthplace, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in 1756.
- Hike up to Hohensalzburg Fortress for panoramic views of the city.
- Relax at the Salzach River and enjoy some local food at one of the riverside restaurants.
Evening:
- Visit Salt Mine Hallein, the oldest salt mine in the world still in operation. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Salzburg.
- Return to Salzburg and have dinner at a traditional Austrian restaurant.
Things to Know:
- Salzburg Card offers free admission to most of the city’s museums and attractions, as well as free use of public transport.
- The city is famous for its Mozart Chocolate, a must-try!
Visa Requirements:
- Citizens of many countries do not need a visa for stays under 90 days in the Schengen Area, which includes Austria. However, it’s always best to check with your local embassy or consulate.
Transportation:
- Vienna has an extensive public transportation system, including trams, buses, and the metro (U-Bahn).
- Salzburg also has a good public transport network, including buses and trams. The city is also walkable.
