Assisi 7-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Orientation

  • Arrive in Assisi. If you’re arriving by bus or train, the Busitalia - Sita Nord and Trenitalia services are convenient.
  • Check into your accommodation. Recommended places to stay include Palazzo Senoni Hotel, Albergo del Duomo, and Locanda San Pietro.
  • Spend the rest of the day exploring the town, get familiar with the layout, and enjoy a local dinner at La Piazza o Enoteca Sobrino Dantino.

Day 2: Basilica di San Francesco & Santa Maria degli Angeli

  • Visit the Basilica di San Francesco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore its two beautiful churches, the Upper Church (Chiesa Superiore) and the Lower Church (Chiesa Inferiore).
  • Next, visit Santa Maria degli Angeli, which houses parts of St. Francis’ Porziuncola.

Day 3: Basilica di Santa Chiara & Piazza del Comune

Day 4: Day Trip to Spoleto & Orvieto

  • Take a day trip to nearby Spoleto and Orvieto. You can travel by train from Assisi station.
  • In Spoleto, visit the Ponte delle Torri, Duomo di Spoleto, and the National Archaeological Museum.
  • In Orvieto, explore the stunning Gothic cathedral, Duomo di Orvieto, and the underground city.

Day 5: Day Trip to Perugia

  • Take a day trip to Perugia, about an hour away by train.

Day 6: Assisi’s Countryside & San Damiano

Day 7: Departure

  • Spend your last hours in Assisi shopping for souvenirs, visiting any sights you may have missed, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this charming town.
