Albania 7-Day Itinerary

(Note: This itinerary assumes you’re starting from Tirana, the capital city. Adjust according to your arrival point.)

Day 1: Explore Tirana

  • Visit Skanderbeg Square, National History Museum, Et’hem Bey Mosque, and Bunk’art 1 & 2 for a glimpse into Albania’s past.
  • Enjoy local cuisine at Toptani or Fshatit restaurants.
  • Things to know: Tirana is vibrant and modern; English is widely spoken among the younger population.
  • Visa: Albania is visa-free for many countries for up to 90 days, but check the latest requirements based on your nationality.
  • Transportation: Tirana has a well-organized bus system (Rinas Express) that connects the airport with the city center. Taxis are also readily available.

Day 2: Durres & Durres Beach

  • Spend the morning exploring Durres, the seaside city with an ancient amphitheater and Roman baths.
  • Relax at Durres Beach in the afternoon.
  • Transportation: Buses run regularly from Tirana to Durres (approximately 1 hour).

Day 3: Berat

  • Journey to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site with an Ottoman-era old town.
  • Visit Onufri Museum, Gorica quarter, and Berat Castle.
  • Transportation: Take a bus or rent a car from Durres (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes).

Day 4: Apollonia & Vlore

  • Explore the ancient ruins of Apollonia in Fier region in the morning.
  • Travel to Vlore, the birthplace of Albanian independence, and visit Muradie Mosque and Independence Monument.
  • Transportation: Buses run from Berat to Fier, then take a taxi or bus to Vlore (approximately 2 hours 30 minutes in total).

Day 5: Saranda

  • Drive along the scenic Albanian Riviera, stopping at beautiful coastal towns like Himare and Qeparo.
  • Arrive in Sarande, where you can visit Lekuresi Castle and Santa Quaranta Beach.
  • Transportation: Continue your road trip with a rented car (approximately 3 hours).

Day 6: Butrint National Park & Gjirokaster

  • Spend the morning exploring Butrint National Park, an ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Head to Gjirokaster in the afternoon, a traditional Ottoman-style town with a fortress.
  • Transportation: Continue your road trip to Sarande, then take a bus or taxi to Butrint (approximately 1 hour), and another to Gjirokaster (approximately 2 hours).

Day 7: Return to Tirana

  • Drive back to Tirana, stopping at scenic spots along the way if desired.
  • Transportation: Continue your road trip to Tirana (approximately 3 hours 30 minutes).
