Albania 2 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring Tirana and Durres
Morning:
- Arrive at Rinas International Airport, Tirana. (Flight details not included)
- Check-in at your hotel in Tirana. We recommend the Tirana International Hotel & Conference for its central location and modern facilities.
Mid-Morning:
- Start your day with a visit to Blloku, Tirana’s chic neighborhood, once a restricted area under communism but now bustling with cafes, bars, and boutiques.
Afternoon:
- Head to Skanderbeg Square, the city’s central square named after Albania’s national hero, George Skanderbeg. Visit the Et’hem Bey Mosque, the National History Museum, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs Building.
Evening:
- Take a short trip to Durres (about 45 minutes by car). Stroll along the Durres Beach, one of Albania’s most popular seaside resorts. Have dinner at a local seafood restaurant.
Things to Know:
- The official language is Albanian, but English is widely spoken in cities and tourist areas.
- The local currency is the Albanian Lek (ALL). Credit cards are accepted in most places, but it’s always good to have cash on hand.
- Albania is a safe country for tourists, but as with any destination, be aware of your surroundings, especially at night.
- Tap water is generally safe to drink, but bottled water is readily available.
- The electricity supply is 220V and uses the Type F power socket.
- Albania operates on Central European Time (CET).
Day 2: Visit Berat and Apollonia
Morning:
- After breakfast, depart for Berat (approximately 1.5 hours by car). Known as the “City of a Thousand Windows”, Berat is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Afternoon:
- Explore Berat Castle, home to several Orthodox churches and mosques, including the Onufri Museum housing works by the famous Albanian icon painter, Onufri.
- Visit the Mosi mosque, one of the oldest in Berat, and the Gorica Hill, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the city.
Evening:
- Head to Apollonia Archaeological Park (approximately 30 minutes by car). Explore the ancient ruins and learn about the history of this important Greek colony.
Return:
- Return to Tirana for dinner at a local restaurant, such as House of Pies or Kuzuku.
Transportation:
- Renting a car is the best way to explore Albania, but be aware that road conditions may vary and driving can be chaotic in urban areas. Alternatively, you can arrange for private transportation or use public buses.
Visa Requirements:
- citizens of most countries do not require a visa to enter Albania for stays under 90 days. Check your country’s specific requirements before travel.
