Agra India 3 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Exploring the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort
-
Morning: Check-in at your hotel in Agra. We recommend stays at The Oberoi Amarvilas, Trident Agra, or Clarks Shiraz for a comfortable and memorable experience.
-
Afternoon: Visit the Taj Mahal. This iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site is a must-visit. Remember to dress modestly (cover your knees and shoulders). It’s best to visit early in the morning to avoid the crowd and enjoy the sunrise.
-
Evening: Head to the Agra Fort. Located 2.5 km northwest of the Taj Mahal, this fort is another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the magnificent palaces, mosques, and audiences halls built by various Mughal emperors.
-
Dinner: Dine at Pinch of Spice or Sher-e-Punjab for an authentic Indian dining experience. Don’t forget to try local dishes like Butter Chicken, Naan, and Biryani.
Day 2: Agra City Tour
-
Morning: Visit the Itimad-ud-Daula, also known as Baby Taj. This is a beautiful Mughal mausoleum often overlooked by tourists.
-
Afternoon: Explore the bustling local markets of Agra like Sadar Bazar or Kinari Bazaar for shopping traditional Indian clothes, jewelry, and handicrafts.
-
Evening: Relax at Mehtab Bagh, a beautiful garden on the banks of the Yamuna River. It offers a stunning view of the Taj Mahal at sunset.
-
Dinner: Dine at Rambabu Chaat Bhandar for some delicious street food or try local dishes with a modern twist at Casa Mia.
Day 3: Fatehpur Sikri and Back to Delhi
-
Morning: After breakfast, take a day trip to Fatehpur Sikri (about 40 km from Agra). This deserted red sandstone city was the capital of the Mughal Empire under Akbar from 1571 to 1585.
-
Afternoon: Return to Agra and prepare for your journey back to Delhi. If time allows, you can explore more local markets or enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the city’s restaurants.
-
Transportation: Auto-rickshaws are the most common mode of transportation within Agra. For longer distances, consider hiring a taxi or using app-based cab services like Ola and Uber. If you prefer a guided tour, many hotels can arrange for one.
